Crocheted Shawl Collar Vest Crochet Pattern

A great learning experience; very pleased with my 2nd attempt!

Finishing this vest made me feel proud...even though I took scissors to my dismal first attempt in frustration. I had already made a slouch cap and couldn't find the same color for the vest, so I added a little trim to the cap and differently-colored vest to make them a coordinated set. The pattern is well-written and the photos helped a lot but I struggled with how the collar is supposed to attach to the vest; the way I initially read it was to make two slip stitches into each row of the vest body before turning and making another row on the collar. On my 2nd try I made one slip stitch into the corresponding vest row and another one in the beginning of the next vest row before turning. Lessons learned: 1. I can't mentally keep track of stiches and rows and a counting gadget was essential to my success. (I should get another one in a different color so I can count rows AND stiches.) 2. "Eyeballing" and saying "meh, close enough" does NOT work! 3. The mid-length came out shorter than the cover photo looked but I have yet to see it on my grandson's doll; my 18" thriftshop doll may have a thicker torso or something. I also made a chainstich belt for it, poking the belt through the vest so it doesn't get lost or carried away by the family cat.

Another perfectly written pattern from Pixie Faire. Directions were easy to follow, and the item came out just as described. The only oopsies were due to my yarn splitting, tight crochet stitches, and miscounting. I've made two of the little vests for my granddaughter's doll. Very cute! I'll check Pixie Faire first for patterns I might need. Thank you!
