The seeds took off like a shot. After they were cut down before going to seed, it showed the soil was much improved, including due to a cover of straw to protect the garden soil. I also put down oats and field peas which are doing super. They will die down over winter and further contribute to the richness of the soil.

I am new to cover crops, especially in Virginia. The ground seems like concrete and barren. But after sowing the buckwheat and then covering with straw, the ground changed. It looked more like the fertile soil I was used to. Now I have sown the oats/peas cover crop. And again will cover with straws. I am sure that my soil will do amazing things next year.
