Evah Pirazzi Gold Viola Set

Excellent strings, use them all the time.

Good strings

I find the Evah Pirazzi Gold viola set to be a very good all-round string set. It seems to work well on most violas. These are not low tension strings, so if the viola requires lower tension strings such as Dominant or Eudoxa, these will probably not work. The pros: The strings play in very quickly, within a day or two. Then they are very stable and require little tuning. The sound is very pleasant—not too bright or too dark. It is a strong, clear sound and plays well both ff and pp. The cons: These strings last about 6 months for me with daily playing. Then they start to no longer respond well in soft passages. Personally, I prefer gut strings (Passione, Oliv, Eudoxa), as I can find more varied tone colors playing on gut strings. Gut strings also last many months longer than the synthetic strings. And modern gut strings, especially the Passione, are almost as stable as the best synthetic strings. Overall, however, I find the Evah Pirazzi Gold viola strings to be the best synthetic viola strings available.

Wonderful strings

I decided to try the Evah Gold strings upon the recommendation of a professional colleague. I’m very glad I did! In the past, I used Obligato strings (also Pirastro) and was perfectly happy with them. However, the Evah Gold set is better. Not only does it capture the sound quality of the Obligatos, but requires far less effort to produce a full sound. I recommend using the full set.
