4300 year-old Erhu Bridge

A Warm and Musical Upgrade

I had high hopes for this 4300-year-old erhu bridge, and it certainly didn't disappoint. Compared with the original Dunhuang bridge, this one appears to be slightly larger, which may provide greater contact with the python skin. Whatever the reason, the difference in sound is immediately noticeable. The tone is much more grounded, rounder, and warmer, giving the instrument a richer and more refined character. My erhu's original setup was quite loud and edgy. After fitting this bridge, the harshness was significantly reduced, and the sound became far more pleasant and comfortable to listen to while still retaining good projection. This is a simple upgrade that made a surprisingly big difference to the overall tone of my instrument (a very old Dunhuang student instrument). Highly recommended for anyone looking to achieve a warmer, more balanced sound from their erhu.

Bridge improves playing of upper register

Over 15 years ago I bought my first Erhu from Eason. It's been a good erhu, all that I wanted. But if you play erhu you know that when you bow the notes of any erhu's upper register it's more difficult to get those upper notes to project as well as notes in its lower register, and that you can't play as many notes in the same amount of time as as you can play in its lower register. This bridge changes that: I can play as many notes in its upper register as it's lower register, they sound good, and they project as well as its lower notes. Worth the cost it is.
