TrailKeg Half Gallon Package

TrailKeg indicated they shipped my order complete. The half gallon package, 10 pack of CO2 cartridges, and the picnic tap. The only thing that arrived was a small soft package with the picnic tap in it. Feels like I got scammed out of $150.00

Not as advertised

I was very excited about the trail keg. My hope was to use it for some of the non-traditional applications. I was really hoping to make carbonated cocktails and nitro brew more so than for keeping beer. My first experiment was with carbonating water. I had to use 2 CO2 cartridges over 2 days to try and carbonate water from flat, shaking it periodically and the result was a moderately carbonated drink. Nowhere near the lever of bubbles that I would have liked. My second attempt was to make nitro coffee from cold brew. I had a similar experience, needing 3 nitro cartridges to get an even moderately bubbly product and the coffee really just tasted and felt like regular cold brew. I had seen that nitrogen was less soluble than CO2 and other products on the market used a stone for nitrogenation, but after asking trail keg, they do not have any compatible products at this moment. I realize that this is not the primary intended use for trail keg, but I was hoping that it would work a lot better since this was advertised as a capability on the website. I’ll likely be returning and waiting for better products to be developed by trail keg for these applications because the overall product seems very well made. As an aside, the instructions say to clean both gaskets before use and in doing this, I cut my finger and tore the top seal gasket in the process. I blame myself for this, but warn others to be careful when removing the gasket.

Bottom dented

The growler was dented on the bottom though the packaging was undamaged. Everything else worked flowlessly though I have only filled it once. I like the controllability of the co2 regulator. It served pints of beer over 3 days without overcarbonating.
