Best Treatment of Chesterton’s Attitude towards the Jews
This is a thoroughly researched and scholarly book, absolutely packed with footnotes. It gives you a great picture of all sides of the Jewish Question during Chesterton’s time. The author well defends the thesis that Chesterton was not an Antisemite. I also enjoyed how she portrayed various important writers who were friends, family, and even opponents of Chesterton.
The only downside of the text is that it can be a slog. Also, my paperback edition did not have a good binding and many of the pages fell out. This is still the best and most complete treatment of G. K. Chesterton’s sympathy towards the ordinary Jew even as he was suspicious of wealthy Jews in the financial class.
