I have a Fender American Professional P-bass and the stock V-Mod pickup in it was really disappointing. I will never understand why they decided to use Alnico II on the E and A poles. Loose and muddy low notes. Enter the Fralin. More output, tight, clear and defined in all frequencies, perfect amount of P-bass growl. I've found it works exceptionally well with Fender Nickel coated steel rounds. I'm more of an active bass guy but the Fralin has made this bass one of my favorites.
