Functionally it's a sturdy piece of equipment. The joint is strong so you can be sure that it won't bend in any other direction than where you set it to. Just make sure the cardboard you use doesn't have any creases/bends in it or the force of the air from your sprayer will blow it (the cardboard) up and paint will still go where it's not supposed to.
