For Emma, Forever Ago (ReVINYL Edition)

Great album, poor record

I like this album and have never had a vinyl copy, hence my buying it. If you even half like anything by Bon Ivor you are gonna love this and I recommend it. As to the actual record it’s on Jaguar Jaguar, a great label I have several records of. It is on ‘eco-vinyl’ which I a believe to be recycled records, maybe indeed other material as well. I think that’s a great idea but this particular copy of this particular pressing despite cleaning and being played on a ‘serious’ reproduction system still crackles like a charity shop special. The album, despite not being in any way shape or form an audiophile recording, does rely on subtlety and dynamic shift to convey its art. This suspension of reality is constantly broken by the sheer noise floor (I am not talking about the tape hiss etc, I mean literal groove noise) and near constant crackling throughout. It is a real shame as it’s a great piece of work but this reissue is not recommended. Your mileage may vary and this review in no way denigrates service provided by Record Culture.
