Lots of excellent research, facts, even feelings. But too "tight", especially at the beginning. I wanted a sense of flow, and the start of the book did not reflect a young girl's struggles or even insights. I was disappointed in those kinds of ways, the coming to life and emergence from point to point.

Usually I don‘t like reading biographies. But Karen Powell took Emily Brontë as the first person narrator and I was hooked right from the beginning. Although we all know that the Brontë siblings‘ s story will have no happy ending, the novel is not gloomy at all but powerful and hopeful. Because these short lives lived intensely and in a way without compromise, leaves me with a feeling of content and not so much of sadness (although I shed some tears).
