Love the knife. Hate the micro-serrations.
The serrations are much too fine on this knife and cause an unpleasant “zzzzzzzzz” feeling when in use that I couldn’t stand (like cutting metal with a hacksaw).
I also found the super tiny micro-serrations to be too delicate, and somewhat poorly done, which is surprising because I find most Opinel product to be good quality and very well thought out.
Unfortunately, this knife pattern with this handle material is not available without the awful micro-serrations, so I ended up using a diamond hone to remove the serrations entirely. I then sharpened the knife back to a razor edge and now I love it! But this is not something that I think the average person is going to be willing or know how to do.
Other than the serrations, the knife is great! Just what I was looking for; a good quality, inexpensive knife that is sharp, lightweight, and comfortable in the hand. We also have the regular Bon Appetit knife with the wooden handle and I find the fiber-reinforced polymer of the No. 125 pro version to be ever-so-slightly more comfortable in the hand. The handle of the wooden version is a tiny bit larger and it has sharper edges and corners that make the knife just a bit less comfortable to use. Both knives are great, I just prefer the polymer handled version.
Opinel should (1) ditch the awful micro-serrations in favor of a more traditional serration pattern, and (2) offer all their knives in both a serrated and non-serrated version.
