Waltham Butternut Winter Squash

Walther Butternut Squash Top Producer this year

I planted 12 Walther Butternut seeds in April and now have about 60 squash. The example picture on this website shows the average sizes that I also have, and I ended up with about 10 of the 60 that are jumbo size this year. I used manure and my own compost that accumulated over 1 year. Last year with the same seed, just 8 plants, we had about 30 squash. They sat in the basement after picking to ripen up a bit more and then when opened they were a perfect, a robust orange. I will be a returning customer for years to come.

First Year Planting

I started the seeds in my Greenhouse, and they grew really fast. The plants look very healthy and are doing well in my Garden, Zone 9B, I will follow up with a review after I harvest them this fall.

Robust squash

Seeds sprouted promptly in fertile soil, developing into robust vines that soon will sport squash. Last year’s plants produced delicious squash, four or so per vine.
