Vested Interests

I live in southern Nevada's Mojave Desert. For years, my go-to coat (Yes! It does get cold here.) for camping and other outdoor pursuits has been an oilskin my wife gave me one long ago Christmas. I've found oilskin to be scratch resistant (lots of sharp rocks and thorny plants in my neck of the desert), rain resistant (not often required here, but sometimes), wind resistant (not uncommon here) and comfortably warm. When I don't need a full coat, I wear a vest -- and, over the years I've snagged, ripped and otherwise destroyed several whose outer layers couldn't stand up to desert abuse. To be sure, I've looked at several oilskin vests over the years, but most seemed designed more for looks than real use. I bought Outback's on a hunch that, given its implied origins, it just might be the real McCoy -- tough, functional and actually useful for more than its tavern appeal or square-dancing. So far it has proven to be all three -- having already deflected potentially serious arguments with both cholla cactus and several catclaw trees, while simultaneously providing ample space for the gear I routinely carry in the field and, at the same time, keeping me warm. It looks, and feels, like a keeper!

Men's Overland Vest

The Men's Overland Vest, exactly fits the bill for a light windproof Vest for outdoor work. Just a sufficient amount of flannel lining to give it a bit of warmth yet without the bulk. The number of pockets are a plus to be hands free during chores, double zipper, could not ask for more features. 5" 11" 215, the L a perfect fit. Would recommend.

Great Vest

The vest seems durable and does a great job cutting the cold wind out on the farm. Its pockets are conveniently located and the waist adjustment straps do just enough to keep it from seeming baggy.
