Hultafors Arvika 5 Star Felling Axe

Always wanted one. Used to log red cedar shakes as a young man and used a Trojan 5lb back then with the handle shortened slightly. Really like how this axe feels in my hands. Axe for life

Like this axe but…

1. I was hoping for a little higher centerline. 2. I didn’t expect a great finish on the edge but it was easy enough to sort out. 3. The head slipped on the first strike, and I never could get it tight so I rehung the handle. 4. The handle was crooked, tailing off near the palm swell. I was able to correct a lot of this when I sanded flats and narrowed the handle. 5. Rehanging gave me a chance to weigh the head, which is actually 4 pounds 2 ounces. Love the axe now that it’s sorted out. Without knowing the history on it and where it might have been stored, etc., it’s hard to assign blame.

Very nice axe. The handle could have been hung a little nicer I think, for the money. I haven’t tried it out yet so 4/5 stars is appropriate I think. The fit isn’t 100% but it will work just fine. Very high quality steel with a bit of run out in the grain of the handle. Grain orientation is perfect.
