Hooded Jacket

Great quality and feel. The overall weight to warmth is great, cuts the wind nicely. The only recommendation I have is to make a way to cinch it better at the waist to prevent heat from escsping and or any loose fabric from being caught on something. Overall a great product, looking forward to testing its life, but initially seems to be durable.

It's hard to find anything US-made and 100% wool, much less both in the same product. I got mine last year, in midweight Lynx, and I'm impressed with the quality. Every stitch is perfect, and I don't think the zipper will ever break, like it does with every other coat. The wool is really soft, not scratchy at all, which is apparently why they don't need a liner. I walk everywhere and wear it around town, but what I really bought it for is snow camping - or maybe you could call it snow-backpacking - in the Sierra Nevada. We snowshoe everything out there with the gear pulled on pulk sleds. It'll be like 18F and snowing. Generally, everything needs to be either wool or synthetic, not cotton or down, and I've been trying to minimize the amount of plastic I buy, so wool it is. From what I’ve seen so far, this jacket generally doesn’t like to absorb water. Light rain or snow will bead up and run off. It is possible to soak it in heavy rain, but it doesn’t hold much water and dries pretty fast. I would put a rain shell over it in that case. Wind also doesn’t really get through it at all. I have a couple of polyester “fleece” jackets of similar thickness that the wind just cuts right through. The zippered interior pockets are handy. The more pockets the better. The hood is really deep - I’ve actually slept in this jacket a few times because it’s almost like a sleeping bag with that hood, and the ability to adjust the depth is a nice feature that I haven’t seen before. I will note that even though this is midweight wool, it’s still pretty heavy and bulky. It makes a good pillow at least. The first thing you notice when picking it up is the weight, so I probably wouldn’t bring this backpacking. For everything else though, it’s now my go-to.

Didn't have a ton of winter weather to test it in, but it performed flawlessly in what little cold I did get. Took it through a downpour this morning and stayed warm and dry. Fits well, looks great, and the build quality is fantastic. 10/10
