It does allow you to trim the points correctly. However, due to the height of the lip that you position against the fabric prior to trimming, you really can't trim more than two layers accurately at one time. Also, I dont feel that the ruler material is of good quality - it's made out of an inexpensive plastic that can snap easily and not the quality like quilters rulers are made from.
