Great Storage Rack Over Workbench
The versatility of the Maker Pipe system is very evident in this overhead storage rack, designed to exactly straddle my 8' workbench. It's constructed entirely with 1" EMT and Maker Pipe joints.
The six legs are perfectly spaced to avoid any interference with opening or closing the tool chest drawers. The legs also hug the front and rear edges of the workbench tightly, preventing any sway toward the front or rear. The joints are fairly rigid, so there was little tendency to sway left or right, but I added two 45-degree braces at opposite corners just to be extra safe.
In this picture the far end of the rack is already loaded with long items which more than span it. On the near end I'll add some thin shelving board for smaller items, like all the stuff you see usurping my workbench top.
Happy camper!

Slippage a Problem
We were creating a framework to hold sun shade material over raised veggie beds. We ordered 1/2” fittings with sleeves. We were able to keep vertical connections from slipping down by adding hose clamps below the fittings. Next we tried some diagonals to keep horizontal pipes from slipping out. That mostly solved the problem but we still have issues now and then because we do not have diagonals at every intersection. This project got way more expensive than we planned because of the extra fittings we had to order to keep the intersections connected. But the end product looks good and beats pvc pipe.
