Bärenpark

Great gift!

I personally love Barenpark, but this was purchased as a gift for a family new to games. This was the besr choice as there are few rules (6 highly illustrated pages), friendly components, pleasant art, and despite being low complexity, there is enough strategic depth to keep the game interesting and engaging. The family I purchased this for was very grateful mentioning that it was a much better choice than the games they have been getting. This is the third game I have purchased for this family. I am very familiar with a broad range of games. This is one of the better polyomino games. Similar games to compare that are about as good: planet unknown, and world wonders. Those two games are also quite enjoyable, but may be too complex for new to games families. Similar games I would avoid: Isle of Cats and NY Zoo. While having animal theming and great art, these two games provide less engagement at a higher pricepoint making for a less favorable value proposition. I found Isle of Cats tedious and frustrating. NY Zoo felt very repetitive and I felt the animal tokens were redundant and unnecessary.
