Bolt Z-Wave

So, I _want_ to like it, and, I think if they can fix their issues with software updates then it'd be a 5 star. The good: much smaller and sleeker design then other Z wave locks on the market. And the 800 chip shows with great response time and range for control. The physical buttons are great when it's darker outside (compared to competitors that use a touch-like panel). Battery life so far seems good as well (writing after ~3 months of usage) The bad: the stock firmware does not make it easy to add new user codes remotely. With home assistant, you actually need to call a GET call using command class 99 (user code) to the device for it to first "make" a code slot. Then you can call the set lock usercode action to actually set a code. They provided a beta firmware, but this firmware has its own issues: the door sensor is _very_ laggy, and fast door open/closings mean it won't even change at all. Also, after updating, your lock will get into a weird state where it doesn't report at all, requiring you to remove a battery and put one back in (I have had to do this twice so far, but only once per lock I own). Another issue I've found is if the lock jams (which if you have old doors it can happen often as it is sensitive), then it can almost get "reversed" where locking via the button retractable the bolt, and entering the code to unlock extends the bolt. So, they need to spend a bit more time making the lock/unlock more robust, and greatly improve the door sensor or lock state response time so it can be properly used for automations.

Great smart lock. Installed fairly easily a s works really well. I like the fact that is not wifi based.i like the security of Zwave.

Lock works OK but surprizingly firmware update option is not eazy. The app does not support this lock. Firmware could be updated (I hope) via ZWave but the updated firmware file must be requested. An there is no way to know if the updated firmware is available. This issue must be corrected/fixed.
