Sanne Rambags - The Frieze of Life

Dark and evocative, perfectly reflecting the atmosphere of the paintings by Munch. Although this suite is of course conceived by Sanne Rambags alone, its execution is very much a collaborative effort, and as such its success is also very much due to the sensitive and sympathetic contributions by Joost Lijbaart, Roosmarijn Tuenter and Jeroen van Vliet. In comparison to the performance at November Music in 2018 (if my memory serves me right) the arrangements of the parts have become even more stripped-down, laying bare the emotional core of the pieces, just like the Munch paintings do away with superfluous details to focus on the essentials of inner life. A beautiful and strikingly original album.
