Folding Boat Ladder 4-Step

I'm finishing a factory-unfinished sailboat and chose this ladder as one of the accessories I'll eventually need. My current 25-foot sailboat has a folding ladder that takes up quite a bit of room against the stern rail, while this telescoping design should provide the same function in a more compact space. It can also flip up for storage, and the telescoping sections should be easier and safer to deploy when someone is already in the water. The ladder arrived fully assembled with no complicated mechanism to figure out. The mounting flanges feel substantial, the telescoping rails operate smoothly, and the entire assembly is sturdier than I expected at this price. The steps are fairly narrow, which is common for this type of boat ladder, but the flat tread surfaces provide better footing than round rungs. Installation requirements will depend on the boat. Because the ladder does not include a separate hull standoff, I plan to carefully position it so it hangs at a comfortable climbing angle without contacting the topsides or trim. The included hardware appears suitable for many installations, although boats with thicker fiberglass, wood trim, or additional backing may require longer bolts. Overall, this is a compact, well-built ladder at a reasonable price. With proper mounting and backing for the specific boat, it should be a practical addition for boarding from the water.

This is a good, solid ladder, and works well, whether for boats or even other projects. We had a low tree house platform that needed a ladder, and this works perfectly for that. It is sturdily made, and seems waterproof, so can be left outside easily, and folds out of the way when not needed. It is a bit hefty, but still a comfortable weight to carry with one arm as needed, so is easily portable. It's sturdy once secured, and feels pretty good, even for adult men. It does seem to support the described weight, and doesn't feel insecure. The steps are coated with a plastic that provides some ribbing. As long as you exercise even a bit of caution, this should work fine, even when wet. I like the handlebar across the top, this is no more expensive than other ladders, but most of them do not have this. The handlebar gives you an extra rung to grab, vs just grabbing the platform to pull yourself up. It's a good ladder for the price.
