This is a beautifully put-together machine, that appears to be very simple and of high quality materials. Anxious to make a better coffee with this, have been kinda waiting for our Ninja to finally quit, as it seems pretty tired.

Hello, I recently purchased and today received a new Bonavita Enthusiast 8-Cup Coffee Brewer with the stainless-steel thermal carafe. Before using it for coffee, I washed and thoroughly rinsed all the removable parts and then began running plain water through the brewer. The instructions recommend running at least two full water-only brew cycles before use. I have now completed approximately seven full brew cycles, but after every cycle there is still a thin, oily-looking film floating on the surface of the collected hot water. I have not brewed any coffee in the machine because I am uncomfortable drinking from it while this unexplained residue continues to appear. I have tried to isolate the source as follows: - Every brew cycle has used filtered water from a new Frigidaire refrigerator. - I put hot water from the faucet into the removable reservoir and observed no film. I did tge same with the filter basket but still no film. - I placed the filtered water directly into the black filter basket, where a surface film would be relatively easy to see, and observed no film. - I filled the thermal carafe directly with hot tap water and observed no film. - I initially washed the removable parts with a small amount of dish detergent and rinsed them thoroughly. - I have repeatedly rinsed the filter basket and carafe with hot water after each cycle. - The oily-looking film appears only after the water has passed through the brewer’s heated internal water process. After approximately seven complete flushing cycles, I do not believe this should still be occurring in a new coffee brewer. I sent this in with a proto and pdf or my purchase receipt, asking to please advise whether this is a known issue and what the residue could be. Unless there is a clear and documented explanation showing that this is normal and safe, I would like either a replacement unit or a refund. So far, I bhave had no reply, so what I was looking forward to has become a great disappointment. Steve Young

It brews good coffee. But I wish the water reservoir cover was attached as a flip top cover. Also, have had it for a week and the machine does not automatically power off like the manual says it should. I have to manually power it off.
