This works just as I had expected. The test magnet finds the "saddle points" in line with each of the satellite magnets. Then it finds the stable equilibrium points. Then you can move it around and it remains locked in position. Things to watch for: 1) putting the smaller magnets into the holder was hard work. In the end I put a chopping board on top to help force them into position 2) make sure you use this on a few smooth surface. First time I tried it on the dining table. But the test magnet kept finding slight imperfections and then launched itself through the air to hit the main magnet with a real bang. Fortunately nothing was broken.

One of the large magnets arrived broken. I’m having difficulty getting the smaller magnets in to the ring. I’m sure I’ll get it eventually its just more challenging than I expected based on the demonstration I watched online.

i like it! it broke after only a few uses to my ignorance but thats on me!
