Tipsy TS12...A reference by which all other iems will be judged
As an avid audiophile I have purchased many headphones, iems, dacs, amplifiers, and lots of portable digital audio players over the past 30 years. Occasionally, I get surprised by gear that surpasses my expectations. I recently acquired a custom Tipsy TS12, a 12 driver top-of-the-line from their professional series.I own many expensive iems and enjoy them. Unfortunately, most have some characteristics that negatively affect tonality and balance. Some have too much bass or not enough, vocals that are either too close or too far away, and treble that is too peaky or sibilant. As a result, I need to use EQ to adjust their frequency response, or change ear tips or cables. My first impression of the TS12 is that it is the most balanced, most natural iem I have ever heard. Bass, mids, and treble all work in unison to provide a sound signature that needs no adjustment. Perfect tonal balance, coupled with precise imaging that make every instrument sound real, every vocal sound clear, and every high frequency note sparkle with just the right amount of shimmer and airiness. Since nothing is over emphasized you hear fine micro detail, accurate leading and trailing edges of tones, and vocals that are incredibly revealing. Imagine going to a concert and handing your ticket to an attendee that will take you to your seat. They wind their way through 2000 people and climb stairs to go on stage. They place a chair 5 ft in front of the performers and kindly ask you to have a seat and enjoy the performance. This is the Tipsy TS12 experience. No wonder musicians all over the world use Tipsy iems. Kudos to Masan Lee and his craftsmen.
