Wonderful book
Dr. Walters' efforts in documenting various Shaligrams (as well as some of their history, and very importantly, their ritual worship!) has been nothing short of a boon, especially for people who may not know where to begin when it comes to deciphering the various forms of Shaligrams. With this field guide, it has become much easier to discern one shila from another. It is rich in information and allows one to be conscious of what to look out for/beware of when on the lookout. This book is an indispensable treasure trove, and I would happily recommend it to anyone. Thank you to everyone who has made this book possible! 🙏

Gorgeous, informative, and illuminating
This scholar’s approach to Hinduism and other Himalayan / South Asian religions is respectful and insightful.
I grew up in the Himalaya and was aware that Shaligram traditions existed but that was all. I have learned so much from this book.
Walters’s scholarship is solid. The inclusion of beautiful color images - so the reader can see the sacred objects being discussed- not only aids understanding but elevates this work beyond a purely informational resource.
