Electric Assist Optional Thumb Throttle

Best. Purchase. Ever.

The thumb throttle is a must have. I haven’t had it in the four years I’ve been driving my bike and the help it provides starting up on a hill with a full bucket of kids is incredible. Don’t hesitate. Get the thumb throttle. I installed it easily with some help from Jared because my motor is older. As always, the Madsen fam is just the best!

Game changer

We got our Madsen with the throttle pre-installed and are 100% happy that we did. Before buying, we talked with some family and friends who have Madsens and they talked about one of the only negative was sometimes tipping over when trying to get going ay stoplights or just having a hard time getting going when stopping on an incline. I was so excited when I saw the throttle option and it’s been everything we’ve hoped for. We ride with 2 kids in back and I only weigh 110 lbs and am not the most confident biker in the world. The thumb throttle allows me to get the bike started up smoothly every time, even on inclines, at lights, and when loaded with a lot of weight.

Useful but...

We love having the throttle there to quickly cross a street or start from a stoplight. However, the throttle doesn't limit at 20mph, meaning it technically doesn't fall into any e-bike class. I don't expect to get in trouble just for having it installed, but if I go full throttle I can hit 25-30mph, so I make sure not to use it except for the short situations mentioned above. I'm giving it 4 stars for being handy but technically causing my bike to lose both a Class 2 and Class 3 status. My recommendation to Madsen for a future improvement would be to make the motor controller limit the thumb throttle to the 20mph that keeps it legal.
