An Almost Purrfect Murder (PAPERBACK)

I 'm reading these books to my daughter over the phone. We are enjoying them very much.

This is a sweet locked room mystery that takes place on an Alaskan cruise ship Our heroine is Frankie, a woman who always seems to find herself involved in murders (this is the third book in the series but is fine as a stand alone) due to her abilities to get clues from the animals around her. Yep, she’s the Dr Doolittle of crime solving. This mystery takes place during the on board wedding of Frankie’s best friend so there are a lot of characters from the wedding party to the ship’s crew and passengers, but Jacqueline Vick does a great job of having Frankie review suspects and plot lines so the reader can keep it all straight. The other thing Frankie obsesses over is her love life and while it’s all very tame, I found her insecurities annoying as they constantly caused issues with other characters. Lastly, for a woman who has the special power to communicate with animals, I was expecting a lot more interaction with the trained cats from the variety show on board. If that’s the hook for this series I wish Vick would lean into more.
