Jerry Goldsmith's Alien score
Jerry Goldsmith has always experimented with orchestrations, synths and sounds. Alien is one of those scores were he showed his unique skills. He certainly learned this from studying Ravel, Stravinsky, etc.
If you want to learn more about (modern) orchestrations this one is certainly worth taking a look at.
