One of the best horror novels I’ve read this year. What am I saying? One of the best novels I’ve read this in a long time. A claustrophobic nightmare about four men—a politician, a bootlegger, a drunk, and a killer—stuck in a jail while the small mining town where they live is ravaged by an ancient evil awakened from underground. Intriguing characters, a dark setting, beautifully rich prose, and haunting creatures make this novel a must read. C.S. Magnuson is an author that will definitely be lining my bookshelves for years to come.
