Houghton Horns Model H3 - French Horn Two-Piece Mouthpiece Underpart

I’ve been wanting to try an H-Kote rim for quite a while now. I called and spoke to Josh about where I was as a horn player and where I’d like to be. I had already switched to a Laskey 775F because of my tendency to have brighter tone. That one switch had already helped me tremendously. I didn’t want to lose ground. Josh recommended I try the H3 cup in raw brass with a 17.75mm H1 H-Kote rim. When the mouthpiece arrived, I was half expecting it to make things worse and was anticipating shipping it back. To my surprise, it was a great fit. I love the “wet” embouchure feel of the H-Kote rim and the warm, rich tone from the raw brass H3 cup. I am elated with the set up. Loved the mouthpiece. I enjoyed smooth it felt to move in between notes. To me it played best with the original H3 rim. I tried an H1 18.00 with it as that size works best for my embouchure and felt the sound was slightly not as pure as with the H3 rim. Dont know if this is normal or not, but that was my experience. Despite this, I still decided to keep it. I enjoyed the freedom of expression I had while playing it.

Because of the finish on this, I cannot get it to unscrew from the rim. It would be much better if the threads were smoother.
