Wendigo had me hooked from start to finish. I especially appreciated how Blake, the protagonist, isn’t your typical hero—he's far from admirable and has some pretty questionable morals, yet he's not a caricature or a stock villain either. He’s flawed, human, and surprisingly relatable, even when we don’t fully agree with his choices. As a writer myself, I know how tricky it can be to pull off a character like that, and M.G. Herron nails it. The dark humor woven throughout—particularly in the cutthroat world of academia—was another highlight. (I have a feeling that part’s rooted in truth.) Even when Blake is facing death, his main concern is getting credit for his discovery, knowing that a byline could launch his anthropology career. All in all, a sharp, engaging, and thoroughly entertaining read.

Great short story! Haunting, but the bad guys get what they deserve. Enjoyed it, and I could easily visualize and imagine the action and reactions..
