Truly stunned with my purchase.
I've been following DNV for a while, and decided to finally make the jump on a G14SE/NVG90SE - a day before a large MilSim event ; with extremely poor lighting conditions. Needless to say, after using the unit in these conditions - I am thoroughly impressed. I purchased my NVG90SE two days before the event, with next-day air. Shipping was quick, and I received the unit well before the next event ; at 10:00 AM the next day. Starting off, I tested the unit under decent conditions the night before-hand ; running it through a local park with full canopy coverage, full overcast, but a large amount of ambient (but not visible with the naked eye) light from a nearby residential area. The image was extraordinarily clear both in resolution & in light-amplification. Then came the event - MilSim West : Jump To Salsk. Lighting conditions for the event varied slightly. Night one of 2, the conditions were as follows : Overcast, Thunderstorms, and 0% Moonlight - starlight only. In these really rough conditions, the unit worked great ; spare full-canopy ; where it would become harder to navigate & pick targets, although still do-able - just slightly noisy. Night two was a waxing crescent, about 2-5% illumination. In THESE conditions, the unit worked clear as day in the same canopies it would struggle with at 0% illumination. In terms of light amplification & resolution, the unit was absolutely usable, even in these relatively difficult conditions - I had no trouble keeping up w/ other people using analog devices ranging from Gen2+ PVS-7s to Gen 3 PVS-14s & RNVGs. My only real complaints with the unit come from the externals, and they are easily remedied - and one about the firmware. NOT being an analog device, the front objective lens is absurdly small - to the point I struggled to find a sacrificial lens that would fit it. Running around with an unprotected NOD when projectiles & pyrotechnics are going around definitely had a pucker factor. Also, not really a complaint ; more of a heads up - the rectangular screen will be angled on a bayonet mount & j-arm, but that doesn't really matter ; its 2026 and you should be running Dovetail anyways Alongside that, I feel like on-board recording is definitely missing from this unit. I know a recording device is available for these, but it would be a warm welcome to have on-board SD recording in future models. This is more of a "wishful thinking" thing, as I understand light amplification & performance come first. If sac-lenses are made for this unit, it would be an absolute home-run for LARP & some casual range time. Everything else, the UI, light amplification, resolution, etc - are great. I'm thoroughly impressed with this unit and have no regrets - you just have to be aware that protecting your unit for LARPing might be a bit of a challenge, and possibly be willing to pay for a recording pack if you like recording your time under NODs.
