I've made multiple candles with Noir Lux over the last 3 years, and this was the worst experience I've had so far. Rating 3 stars because I've had 5 star experiences there in the past, and I'm hoping this is a blip. The oil selection was a fraction of what it has previously been, so the scent I could make was very limited and after the oils were passed around, a couple scents I wanted to use were basically empty, further limiting the selection. I came in wanting to make a citrus candle, and there were absolutely no citrus scents (I even asked because I know not all the scents are put out each time). Ultimately, the candle I made was okay, but not great - I'm not excited to burn it, which says a lot. I've had better scent coaching historically, and while this most recent experience wasn't horrible, it wasn't great either. It was kind of "here's what to do, now go". It was a lot more hands off, figure it out yourself than I've seen historically. In the employee's defense, it was the first one of the day and things were not setup by the previous night's employees for this employee to be successful. The one change I saw that I did like was the availability of the paper towel strips (rather than full sheets like I've seen before). It's been a year since I made my last candle, and it's possible some changes were gradual over the last year, but the difference was jarring to me. I'm not sure when it went from stirring with the bar spoons to wood sticks, but it made the experience feel less lux, and the amount of oils we were coached to use was reduced (not by much, but it was noticeable) making it seem like the oils (arguably an expensive part of the process) were being rationed. It made me wonder where else cost saving may have been implemented - I didn't specifically investigate the wax being used now because I had looked at it before choosing to go initiall, but it does make me wonder if something like that would change. My friend is moving away from the area so we likely wouldn't frequent there moving forward a lot anyway, but this last experience made us happy about that (which is unfortunate because I've made some amazing candles there in the past - ones I don't want to burn because I love the scent so much).

We had a great time selecting our vessels, scents, and pouring/mixing our candles. We look forward to coming back when we’re due for refills!

We went for my daughter’s birthday and it was such an enjoyable experience. Tatiana did such a great job of engaging the whole group, and it was fun to hear the diversity of everyone’s favorite scents. There were so many scents to choose from, and you could mix scents to creat a new one. We picked up the candles days later and that process was seamless. Great company - we’ll be back!
