Casanova LLC

3 stars for book, 5 for Julia's narration, 2 for York's, 2 for song

The audiobook of Casanova LLC had a tough job living up to the book that birthed it, Thank You for Listening (one of my favorite books ever, that I keep re-reading (or hearing) and enjoy every time). I was ready for a simpler, spicier story and Casanova mostly fulfilled my expectations. Julia did a wonderful job narrating, as usual. Casanova's uncle was a gem. But I struggled through the whole audiobook with the deep disappointment that was Sebastian York, reading the part of Casanova. He sounded like a boorish lug. I've never heard anything less sexy. The part written for him was fine - not nearly as good as Nick in TYFL, but I wasn't expecting that. I was just hoping for a voice and style of speaking that I could ever imagine finding interesting or attractive. The final romantic song (not sung by York, I believe?) was also an atmosphere-crushing disappointment, sung slightly flat by Casanova, with uninspiring lyrics and melody. Even Julia's lovely harmonizing could not save it. To summarize: the audiobook as a whole was OK. Parts of the plot were good, even riveting; most of the writing was fine or good; but trying to ignore Casanova's voice while listening to his words was hard work.

I hadn’t read Thank You For Listening for a while. While listening to Casanova (which I loved) kept wondering if it actually fit into TYFL. Afterwards began listening to Julia’s audiobook & was amazed! What a creative & talented writer. Thanks also for the behind the scenes tracks.

Incandescent

As a lifelong romance reader, I have read or listened to hundreds of romance novels. As a librarian, I have purchased and recommended thousands. Without question, Casanova LLC is one of the best stories I have ever enjoyed. Emotional, thoughtful, and sexy, it's an incredibly satisfying read. The multi-cast narration was perfection. Romance is hopeful, fun, and escapist and Casanova checks every box. My quest in life is to recommend it to as many people as possible.
