I would have liked the book to be longer
For me, the book was both very good and at the same time somewhat disappointing. The good thing is, that the book paints a coherent picture of the person Martin Luther and the "inconsistencies" in his life. For someone like me, who grew up in a Lutheran country, I can see how Lutheran thought is shaped not by any great principles, but simply by a strange mix of inconsistent ideas. And the information in the book has helped me to better see how such inconsistent ideas really are rooted in a person and his homemade solutions to his personal relationships. And because it all fits so well, I naturally have no problem believing, what the author is telling me, is true. But Lutherans are convinced, that Martin Luther was an honest man, who simply could not submit to the Church in good conscience. Of course, he may have had his weaknesses too, but at bottom he was a good man who was willing to pay the price for following the truth. And for such a Lutheran, I see nothing in the book, that could help convincing him otherwise. Therefore, I would have liked to have more details to prove, that the author really had researched his subject and knew what he was talking about. For those who disagree with the author, I think it is too easy to write off the book as Catholic propaganda. For me, the book is easy to believe, because the information in it explains a lot. However, as I really enjoyed reading the book, I was somewhat disappointed, that my reading was over so quickly.

The truth about Luther
This was a well written interesting book that I highly recommend reading. It gives insight into the arrogant and prideful life of Martin Luther, that you will not find elsewhere.
