One of the Best I've Every Played!
I've had the good fortune to test and perform on some amazing cajons during my career, and I can say without reservation that the Standard Birch/Mahogany cajon from Louson Drums is one of the best I've ever played. It is a beautifully engineered and built instrument. The dovetail joints used to hold the top, bottom, and side panels together were done to perfection, giving the drum additional strength and an artistic touch. It's construction means an clear articulation with a warm resonant finish. The beautiful Mahogany tapa has more of a satin finish, which allows me to play with my hands, mallets or brushes with ease. The choice of mahogany means that the cajon adds a warm quality to the open and bass tones. The external snare, a design it shares with the CajonTab (also from Louson Drums) gives the cajon a clean, articulate, bright snare sound throughout the instrument. The use of an external snare also means that the cajon can easily switch from a snare/flamenco style cajon to a Peruvian cajon in seconds. The bass tone is outstanding on the instrument, especially given the instrument's overall dimensions. The deep, punchy sound is enhance through the use of an included CajonPort. My favorite tone on the cajon is the slap tone. WOW, it is incredible! It is bright, with a pronounced pop when played. It reminds me of a Carter Beuford snare tone from his DMB recordings. Overall, I'm happy to give this cajon a 5 star rating. The craftsmen at Louson Drums have put a number of amazing professional level instruments out in the market, and this Standard Birch/Mahogany cajon is definitely one of them.

Top of the line!
This is the best cajon I’ve ever heard or played (confirmed by my band mates as well). It is extremely responsive. The bass tone is deep and resonant. It also looks gorgeous. Couldn’t ask for more.

Great sound, super versatile
I love this cajón! The bass port brings out the low end quite nicely, and the snare is incredibly responsive. I incorporate a lot of finger rolls in my playing and I can hear every single hit like I’m inside the box. I play in a Latin folk band that draws a lot of influence from Central/South America, so the removable snare makes it ideal for switching to that traditional Peruvian sound. It’s beautifully resonant with or without the snare and works great with a cajón pedal, too. I also have a few CajónTabs and the consistency and quality of tone across all of these different drums is astounding. A+
