Information
This impressive polycotton tarp is the perfect companion for all basecamps. With an impressive size of 580x440 cm, it provides ample protection and versatility. The Tarp itself is excellent but I have comments on the pegs and poles
The Tarp itself is excellent.
Pegs: They are very nice pegs. However, as the tarp is pitched quite high off the ground, up to about 2.2m, the guy lines go down to the pegs at quite a steep angle. The pegs have three sides on them and one of these sides is totally smooth and the other two have small nicks (notches) in them. If the peg is put into the ground with the smooth side facing away from the tent (1/3 of the time, by random chance) then the guy line has nothing to grab onto and comes straight off. In the other 2/3 of the time, the tension relies on the line being inside one of these notches, which isn’t a secure as I would like. (This situation would be very different with a normal tent with guy lines at angles much closer to the horizontal, because the guy line would not be trying to ride up the body of the peg quite so much.) So, I went and bought some cheap but heavy duty pegs with a traditional hook on the end, to better catch the loop on the tarp guy lines. In short, the supplied pegs are lovely but not quite ideally suited to the tarp, because of the steep angle the guy lines make with the ground.
The poles: Very nice and strong but they are a little let down by the clip mechanism. Some of the clips do not move freely within their holes and thus tend to stick inside (and thus do not to grip the other part of the pole) and also stick outside, making them difficult to push back inside when the pole need to be taken to pieces. This is painful for fingers and I had to use a metal tool to get some to go back inside - it shouldn't be like that. Some of the clips then became loose inside the pole and I had to pull them back into place.
Customer services: Excellent.
