SINGER® Heavy Duty 4452 Sewing Machine

It came damaged. The sewing machine came in the manufactures box and somewhere along the way it was dropped. I emailed Singer about it and my concerns weren’t validated. I asked them to send it inside another secure box but they told me “the manufacturers box is made for shipping and damage is very uncommon.” I understand its uncommon but MY machine was damaged. I asked to return it completely. Singer really dropped the ball. I was excited to buy my first brand new sewing machine. I won’t be purchasing from them.

I am a semi-beginner sewist making bags and household items and I learned to sew on a Singer Merritt 2404. Loved it. I want to love the 4452. Decent machine for the price you pay but considering that it is “heavy duty” I would expect it to be able to punch through 4-6 thicknesses of quilting cotton easily (a seam) but I must lower the needle myself to get it started; after that it powers right along with only minimal trouble. Decorative stitches: I was spoiled with my little vintage Merritt; this 4452 has very few, and the ones it has are very “edgy” and all angles and weirdness, nothing pretty at all. The new Singer zipper foot is so wide I haven’t figured out how to use it properly to make bags and have only made a tiny zipper pouch. That huge zipper foot made it so hard I gave up. Foot needs to be smaller and sit next to the zipper, not on it. This is a decent machine, but I wish I would have just fixed my old Merritt 2404 instead of buying a new machine.
