Great polishing Stone. I previously purchased the Shapton Pro 5000 and I was gifted a 10000 grit NANIWA CHOSERA. The gift was well intentioned but I had no use for a 10,000 grit stone. 5000 grit was as far as I would ever go. Then a neighbor with a custom super steel EDC wanted his knife “super sharp and shiny”. So, like Elon Musk and his insanely fast Tesla Plaid option, I went from stupid sharp and shiny to Plaid. It required the 8K stone to bridge the gap from 5k to 10k. Q Yes, I was able to take his EDC to Plaid. The 8K is a fine finisher for my VG10 Nakiri to boot.

First, the 5k pro polishes quite well. It has become my end point stone for anyone wanting a bright polished razor cut finish. It cuts harder than its grit would suggest. It feels very similar to the CHOSERA 3k. Next, for a 5k stone, it loads up quite rapidly. Keep a little soapy water spray bottle handy and use it frequently to keep the stone clean. I’ve had to flatten the stone once after 5 knives. It was dished a very small amount and flattened quickly and easily with fine carbide grit and a glass lapping plate. I’ve used this stone on a variety of 54-58 HRC German type steels and one 60-61 HRC VG10.
