More attractive visual presentation, much less information
The last time I bought and used a Lonely Planet guidebook was for a visit to Japan in 2023, published in Dec 2021. Before travelling I felt comfortable I knew what I wanted to visit and to do, but more importantly, how I wanted to do it.
With this new type of guidebook I feel much less confident and have many questions unanswererd. For example, I don’t know what I’ll need to do when I land at Istanbul Airport. All I can find is “Buses travel to Taksim” and the “M11 metro” (p. 49). If I compare this with all the information I have for airport transport in the Japan guidebook I used for the last time, the difference becomes apparent: pp. 159-161, with all options explained for each airport.
I’ve used Lonely Planet for the past 30 years, but next time I will have to browse in a bookstore and compare, because I don’t feel that my guide to Türkiye gives me what I expect from a Lonely Planet guidebook.

Great guide
Love the new formats with lots of pictures, local tips and articles - really helpful for getting a sense of areas and thinking up itineraries
