The snake plant is one of those presences that spans generations, always finding a place at home. In Portuguese it's called espada-de-são-jorge (Saint George's sword), syncretized with Ogum, the orixá of war and iron in Afro-Brazilian traditions, and kept in homes across Brazil for protection against negative energy.
