Overall works great, easy to set up and very nicely maintains temperature on my Big Green Egg. The open lid recovery is the one detractor. At least on the BGE, this causes a consistent temperature overshoot because the fan ramps up any time you open the lid. The problem with this on the BGE is, opening the lid drops your temperature transiently, but actually lets more oxygen in, so swells your fire, with the fan also blowing to "recover", the result is predictable. Even with the Billows Damper installed and set very low, and the top vent almost completely closed, I still saw a large overshoot every time I opened the lid which takes a long time to come back down and all the while the fan is completely off, so no airflow and risks the fire going out. I countered this by unplugging the Billows before opening the lid, and waiting until the temp came back up by itself before plugging the fan back in (and forgot to plug back in at least once, oops). This is clunky, and detracts from the "automated" experience the Billows is supposed to provide. You should have the ability to turn off the lid open recovery functionality, or at least the software should be improved to make the recovery feature compatible with a BGE or other Kamados.

Previously used a Flame Boss product to control cooking temp and monitor food temp with my Big Green Egg. All setup and control was via a phone app that only seldomly worked. It was insanely frustrating. It just quit working last month, after only about 3 years of using it once or twice a year. Bought ThermoWorks Signals and Billows to replace it. Game changer. Set up was easy. BBQ set temp and alarms easily programmed and monitored on the signals unit. Remote monitoring via Bluetooth & the phone app required almost no setup and worked perfectly the first time. Getting Signals connected to WiFi for remote monitoring & control is a bit tricky as the router’s security protocols and other settings have to be set up a specific way to work. But, this isn’t a ThermoWorks failing. Any IOT device these days has the same requirements/issues.

I love everything about the billows set up and RFX I will recommend this to everybody I know in which I know a bunch people who smoke meat
