Protects from ear infections

I've been using these for several years now after having multiple ear infections. Helps keep the water out, comfortable, and you can still hear pretty well. I paddle year round in cold water so these are a must unless you want to get your ears drilled out.

Get the vented ones. They keep the water out while still allowing some sound to get through. Be sure to get the correct size for your ear.
