UV Toothbrush Sanitizer

I like the Sanitizer, but...

It gives me peace of mind knowing that I can tuck my toothbrush head away to be sanitized, but I'm not confident if and when it is sanitizing. The problem for me is the wording of the instructions. 99 % of the instructions are about the Sanitizer itself with common sense warnings and safety instructions. I need clarification on using the item. Will the sanitizer work without it being plugged in? The instant I open the device the blue light comes on. Is that when the 2 minute sanitizing begins? If so, when and why use the plug? What does it mean "unplug the product immediately after use" if sanitation occurs without the plug? If the plug is needed, I find it easy to forget that it's plugged in and walk away, returning even hours later to find it's still plugged in. Does this ruin the sanitizer? Should I stand and wait for the 2 minutes to pass and then unplug it from the wall? I don't mean to be frustrating about this great idea of a product, and maybe I'm overthinking it, but the instructions for use do not make sense. Please advise.
