Love my mini mac book. Audiences are fascinated by it love to play with it. Sets up the miracle ending nicely.

Brilliant, quirky magic - highly recommended

I thought for a long time before buying Minibook Pro. I had a few reservations about it. For example, I knew I’d need to master a really good mercury fold and I also thought that some elements of the performance in the official trailer were quite bold and brave. I also thought that the product was just a tiny bit pricey since you only get half a deck of the cards you’ll want to give away each time you perform this. I bought a full refill deck straight away and went for the unscored version of the product and the refills to save a bit of money. (The best way to score the cards is taught in great detail and I have no problem with arts and crafts and already owned a cutting mat and Exacto knife.) Having now received the products and having watched the lengthy tutorial, my fears fears were put to rest. Noel Qualter teaches a good mercury fold method, going carefully through each step with split screen video footage from two angles to make things very clear. Noel and Roddy also very helpfully talk you through aspects of misdirection built into the routine. All good! In addition, they teach a no signature routine that may be a safer starting point for some less experienced magicians. The half deck of gimmicked cards are beautifully printed and the mini laptop is just what you need for this effect. In addition to a nearly three hour tuition video, you get access to files that enable you to show and animated advertisement on any smart phone (your own or a spectator’s.) It was a simple enough matter to add a screen shot of my own phone home page to the PowerPoint or Keynote files, although it took a while for me to work out how to cope with the files so things looked right on my small iPhone that is a bit shorter and narrower than Noel’s phone! So, all in all, I think the products are in fact pretty good value for money. The tuition video seems to cover everything you need to know. Having watched the video through once quite quickly, I got the impression that Noel mentions things like a double under cut without teaching in detail how to do that, but I may have skipped over details like that in my enthusiasm to get out and perform this trick. I think this was an early production from Trick Trick Boom and, if I have any suggestions to make, it would be that the lengthy and detailed explanation video lacks the efficiency and production quality that we have become used to from the best magic producers. The video seems just a tiny bit disorganised. An hour and 42 minutes into the video a title comes up (QR tips for pros) and you get a black screen and no sound for several minutes. At various points the sound track unhelpfully swings to the right or left channel. However, these minor blemished in the video aside, I highly recommend this product. I think it is brilliant.

With 25-26 performances included out of the box and affordable refills available, it's also practical from a value standpoint. Whether you're a seasoned pro or just stepping into the world of close-up magic, MiniBook Pro deserves a place in your case. Highly recommended!
