Superb travel lens: Light weight, versatile, good magnification
The short version of why I love this lens is, it's so easy to live with, and 20mm - 70mm at F4 is more useable to me than a heavier 24mm -70mm F2.8. I still own a Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 DG DN II Art Lens as well, and it's a great lens for what it does. However I was almost always stopping it down to F4 anyways. On an A1m2 the sensor shift stabilization seems to be enough to make up for the lack of IS on the lens at these focal lengths. + This is a light weight lens. Definitely the lightest zoom I have ever owned. + I really love having 20mm on the wide end of the zoom, it makes all the difference when shooting in the city, and it does more for me than going for a 24-105 style of F4 lens. + The magnification ratio is great on this lens as well, allowing for really decent, semi-macro style close ups. + Handling is excellent. The zoom is a very short throw, but it's smooth and linear. Autofocus is snappy. Aperture ring, and function buttons are nice to have. - Build quality is definitely lower than the GM lenses. The focus ring feels a bit fragile, so we will see how this lens holds up over the years. The price isn't exactly a bargain On balance, this is a perfect travel lens for me. It's lighter, and has better over all magnification than the 24-105, and I prefer the extra range to be on the wide end of the zoom than the tall end. And if you find F2.8 being less useful than F4 anyways, this one is hard to beat.
