Petroleum Quartz – High-Clarity Crystals with UV-Reactive Hydrocarbon Inclusions

Awesome Hydrocarbon Fluid Inclusions!

I recently received my order of Quartz Crystals. Delivery was fairly quick and the samples were very well packed. The quartz crystals are wonderful. Many are euhedral and they all contain hydrocarbon inclusions. I have only had a chance to look at a few crystals under my binocular microscope in both normal light and UV. All of the samples are full of beautiful fluid inclusions of many shapes and forms. Most inclusions contain 3 phases: bitumen/asphalt, oil and gas (methane?). These features are very photogenic but I have not had time to take any photos. The oils fluoresce yellow to pale orange and might indicate a filling history of increasing thermal maturity hydrocarbons over time. These are excellent samples and well worth the time and effort to study them.
