This resonant head on the right drum (which has been every drum I've tried for this sound on so far) creates added warmth and shortens sustain while maintaining open resonant sounds. Just because the sound is shorter does not mean the tone is lessened or that the drum is severely deadened. It still rings openly and the head acts like a natural gate.
