small creeks

I am firmly in the "love them" camp for swell grip rods and really love the light weight and sensitivity of the Ukiyo. I fish small creeks with tenkara rods and this rod shines in the tree lined, shaded creeks of Oregon's western Cascades and Coast Range. I appreciate the versatility of this rod. I think it is happiest with a level line and unweighted fly. But I've found it to cast a 3mm tungsten beadhead fly very capably as well. I have some other lightweight rods that really are only for unweighted flies. I can't say enough good things about the grip. It just feels right. I handed this rod to my daughter this weekend. She's never cast any kind of fishing rod before. She did very well with both a beadhead and dry fly. Her assessment of it was "it's easy" as she kept hooking into coastal cutthroat.

Rivers, lakes and streams

I bought this for my husband for an anniversary present and he loves it! The first trip out he fished the river/streams near Tahoe and lost count of how many fish he caught!!! Great rod, super compact and lite for backpacking and hiking.

I like everything about this product, the weight, portability, case, etc. Im just starting out in tenkara, amd i think i made the right choice.
