This is my ideal for wood flooring. I love the color but that's hardly the main event it would be beautiful in almost any shade. The maple has a smooth regular quality to it which adds a subtle note of visual cohesion that tells your brain THIS is quality wood flooring. The density is just enough to remind you that you are walking on hard wood without being excessively hard or noisy. The grain is timeless and evokes all my positive associations and memories involving maple wood. It's subtle enough that one board never clashes with the next. The overall uniformity elevates the whole into a floor rather than pieces of wood lying next to each other with gaps and irregularities that sometimes you see, sometimes you hear, and sometimes you can just feel. And it does all the without becoming boring in the process because it was grown rather than fabricated. This is the kind of thing that a home needs as a foundational element. There is a rhythm and harmony that it projects that is the essence of what home should be. This is the floor that will keep out the cold and damp. It has a primal level of familiarity to me. It's a metaphor for the level of cohesion family achieves. I believe the best wood floors and other wooden household objects speak to people in many ways and that's a good part of the reason wood is so desired as a building material for homes and furnishings. Simply put, this floor speaks to me.
